A Mind to Ride - Good News from Alberta, Canada

Mae has kindly given me permission to publish this photograph of herself and her horse "Unique", together with her email explaining the difference my 'Equinimity' Self-hypnosis audio CD has made to their riding.

I love to hear such positive feedback: Its good news for Mae and Unique, its good news for me - and it could be good news for you too!

"Hi Sue, I want to thank you for making available your Equinimity Cd. I have been struggling with fears and lots of self-doubt. Since listening to the cd I have begun to enjoy my horse again and have noticed so many postive changes in my riding. Here is a picture of us actually going on a trail ride. It has been a very long time since I was able to head out on the trail with a smile on my face. Thank you so much,
Mae Pitre and Unique"

Mae shares some background information -
Quote :
"I grew up around horses all my life. My parents had a racehorse farm. I ran in to some confidence- blowing incidents a few years ago. And have been struggling with regaining since. I have had some very good instructors and some bad and extraordinary horses along the way. It has been a fight back into the saddle. I never felt like it was really the horses: it was an internal battle with the what ifs etc.. extreme fear and anxieties. It was all me and that in itself was very frustrating. Not being able to throw in the towel I kept on trying, riding when I could. I finally ordered your Cd and it has really helped alot. I think I was very ready to let go and get back to my place which was actually on my horse, and in the present."

Weight Control (A Heavy Subject!)
If this heading has attracted your attention, you will probably not need me to tell you that there is much more to controlling weight than simply going on a diet. You will almost certainly know all there is to know about diets and if dieting were the total answer, things would be much less complicated. It would be a simple matter to select one of the hundreds of diets available on the market today, stick to that conscientiously, lose the desired number of pounds and live happily ever after. But it’s just not that simple is it – and the reason is because weight in itself is not an isolated problem but lies in a multitude of other difficulties and conflicts.

The first difficulty is that something has to change. The old adage
Quote :
“If you keep doing what you’ve always done; you’ll keep getting what you’ve always got”
couldn’t be truer. If you are not prepared to make any changes, learning to accept your excess weight may be the only choice for you. You may need to make changes in WHY you eat, HOW you eat and WHAT you eat. The basic aim is to eat the correct amount of food for your body and stop when you have had enough. The suggestion I often use with my clients in hypnosis is
Quote :
"You only eat the right food, in the right quantity, at the right time, for the right reasons and are completely satisfied with that"

In my years of practice as an hypnotherapist, it seems to me that the most profound changes occur in those clients who are prepared to honestly explore the WHY of overeating. Perhaps this is because it’s an area in which I am most qualified to help! Eating is often done for the mind when in fact it should be to provide nourishment for the body.

Emotional factors are a very important consideration. Sometimes there is an underlying guilt feeling related to childhood experiences. Comfort eating is another cause – some clients find themselves eating because they are lonely or bored, sad, happy, upset or angry. Often this pattern is established in childhood and continues, frequently unrecognised, in adulthood becoming an unconscious habit. Clues to this sort of behaviour often occur when ‘eating’ words are part of the vocabulary – phrases like “I’m fed up” or “I’ve got too much on my plate at the moment” or “I can’t get my teeth into the problem”.

Difficulty in being assertive (also see my notes under 'Personal Development'!) can be a cause of obesity. If speaking your mind is a frightening experience, then eating and being fat may provide an alternative. Sometimes in a relationship the extra weight has multiple functions; it is a focal point for tension and arguments. It is an avenue for excuses. It is certainly worth getting to the root of the emotional difficulty as stuffing yourself at these times, as you probably already know, only compounds and adds weight to the problem.
